This medicine contains 500 mg of the active ingredient simaldrate which belongs to a group of medicines known as antacids that help neutralize the acid produced in your stomach. Simaldrate is prescribed for the treatment of pain, heartburn and other problems associated with excessive secretion of gastric acid. It also creates a thin protective layer on the mucosal surface and thus protects the stomach and duodenum from harmful mechanical and chemical irritation.

This medicine is used to relieve symptoms of dyspepsia (indigestion which can manifest itself as a feeling of fullness, pain and discomfort in the abdomen, nausea, heartburn, belching, bloating).

Is Simaldrate suitable for me?

Simaldrate is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to simaldrate, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
• have kidney failure
• have a blood condition called hypophosphataemia (low concentration of phosphate in the blood)

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• are pregnant or breast-feeding
• have kidney disease
• have intolerance (intolerance) to some sugars

Simaldrate interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Simaldrate?

This medicine is available in form of a tablet.

You should take simaldrate exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. The dose will be prescribed according to your condition and needs.

• The usual dose is one tablet which should be sucked or chewed, 1-2 hours after a meal, 3 to 6 times a day.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Simaldrate side effects?

Like all medicines simaldrate can cause side effects, including:

• diarrhea
• constipation
• nausea
• vomiting
