RANTUDIL FORTE

This medicine contains the active ingredient acemetacin, which is also called a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), or just 'anti-inflammatory'. NSAIDs are used to ease pain, stiffness and inflammation of conditions that affect muscles, bones and joints. It is also used to reduce pain and inflammation in rheumatic conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, and after surgical operations.

Acemetacin, as well as other NSAIDs, eases pain and inflammation by blocking the production of chemicals called ‘prostaglandins’, which are produced at sites of injury or damage.

Is Acemetacin suitable for me?

Acemetacin is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if you have allergic disorder
• if you have peptic ulcers, stomach bleeding or perforation of the intestine
• if you are allergic to other NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen or aspirin
• if you have a serious heart condition, liver failure or kidney failure
• if you are more than 6 months pregnant

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• suffer from or have a history of asthma, hay fever or breathing disorders
• have a liver problem, kidney problem, are taking diuretics or are elderly
• have high blood pressure or have congestive heart failure
• have heart problems, previous stroke or think that you might be at risk of these conditions
• have high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol or are a smoker
• have ever had a stomach or duodenal ulcer, or if you have an inflammatory bowel disorder such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis
• have a connective tissue disorder, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (an inflammatory condition also called lupus, or SLE)
• are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding
• have any psychiatric disorders, or suffer from epilepsy or Parkinsonism
• are suffering from chicken pox or herpes zoster

Acemetacin interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Acemetacin?

This medicine is available in form of a capsule.

You should take acemetacin exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

• The usual dose is 60 mg taken two or three times a day. It should be taken with or after the meal.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Also, this medicine works best if there is a constant amount in the blood. To help keep this amount constant, do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Acemetacin side effects?

Like all medicines acemetacin can cause side effects, including:

Very Common:

• nausea, vomiting
• abdominal pain, diarrhea
• heartburn and minor bleeding from the stomach and intestines

Common:

• indigestion, flatulence (wind)
• abdominal cramps, loss of appetite
• stomach ulcers
• general allergic reactions
• feeling agitated
• headache, feeling tired, dizziness, drowsiness
• increased liver enzymes
