Skin health

The skin is body`s protective layer, and it is the first line of defense against the microorganisms, it maintains the balance of body fluids, it regulates body temperature through sweating and it conducts the sense of touch and pain. The appearance of the skin affects the personal experience itself, but also affects the psyche. Skin health depends on how much moisture and grease it contains, and the skin should be even in color, smooth and soft. However, when the skin loses moisture and elasticity, dryness can be seen and felt, and the skin becomes more sensitive to external influences and prone to various infections.

Skincare depends on age, because during the life the skin changes.

Children's Skin Care

Even when there are no problems, the skin of babies and children is the most sensitive and requires special care. If we add to this the daily irritation such as diaper rash, scrapes, dryness, we see that the key is to choose products for personal care and hygiene that provide 100% tolerance for sensitive skin.

Adolescent`s skin care

During adolescence the skin matures, as well as the rest of the body. Nearly 85% of young people aged 16 to 25 years have problem with oily and acne-prone skin. The problem of youthful acne is often considered normal passing affliction of puberty, although it is a disease which, if wrongly treated, can lead to many complications. Acne treatment should start by visiting a dermatologist who will suggest individual therapy and give instructions about everyday skin care. Severe cases of acne should be treated by a dermatologist.

Mature skin care

In mature age the skin gradually loses moisture and elasticity. The top layer becomes thinner, and the first wrinkles around the eyes and lips become visible. In old age, one should abundantly use products that nourish and moisturize the skin, often with the addition of vitamin A, C and E, to maintain its health.

Skin aging is accelerated by the sun, poor nutrition, stress and nicotine. There are more and more products that smooth the skin, especially the face, but it is important to be careful and choose a quality preparation, because excessive and inadequate care can cause a variety of inflammations of the skin.

SKIN CARE SHOULD BE ADJUSTED BY ITS TYPE AND AGE OF A PERSON.

Skincare by type

  • Impure skin prone to acne should be cleaned with skin care preparations for the treatment of acne and impure skin, and nourished with moisturizers and nonfat creams, whereby one must ensure that the skin does not dry out by using too aggressive preparations. One should ensure a sufficient amount of skin moisture, and nurture the skin with emulsions and gels.
  • Dry skin is nurtured with rich creams that contain nutrients and immediately facilitate a sense of tightening and discomfort.
  • Sensitive skin requires special care, depending on the problem, such as, for example, preparations for the treatment of redness.

The skin and the sun

The skin and the sun are great friends, but they are also enemies. The skin needs the sun to stay healthy, but the sun, except that it accelerates the aging, can permanently damage the skin. In the deeper layers of the skin free radicals that are formed under the influence of UV rays cause cell destruction and very dangerous change in the DNA of the skin, and the effects can be permanent and irreversible skin injuries and even tumors. Therefore, the skin should be exposed to the sun before 9 o'clock in the morning and after 4 o'clock in the afternoon, and the skin should be lubricated with sun protection preparations containing UVA and UVB protective factors.

However, as the effect of these preparations has limited duration, the skin should be additionally protected by wearing protective clothing and staying in the shade.

MORE ADVICE:

Particular attention should be paid to the protection of children's skin from the sun because excessive sun exposure accumulates skin damage caused by UV rays and skin diseases may occur as early as in adolescence.

Tips for the treatment of atopic dermatitis

Inflammation of the skin or dermatitis is the most common disease of the skin and, depending on the cause, can occur as, for example, contact dermatitis, allergic dermatitis, etc.

  • Atopic dermatitis, or eczema, is a chronic inflammatory skin disease associated with heritage of the allergic diseases, although the real cause of the disease is not known.
  • There is a decrease or loss of lipid layer in the skin that retains moisture and provides the skin moisture, elasticity and resistance to external influences, and the skin becomes extremely dry with less obvious or severe redness and itching.
  • Depending on the severity of inflammation, skin swells, it is warm to the touch, there are dry flakes (crusts), and the scratching causes even stronger inflammation and sores.
  • The disease occurs in children and adults, and most often in infants between 3 and 6 months of age.
  • When growing up, the disease can turn into a milder form, with longer periods during which there are no visible symptoms.
  • It is treated with medicines called corticosteroids, in the form of creams or ointments, which are applied in the acute phase of the disease.
  • There is a constant need for the use of emollients, or neutral creams and ointments that moisturize and regenerate the skin, which prevent the occurrence of symptoms or significantly alleviate the symptoms.
  • It is essential to apply gentle bath products, which do not contain soap and fragrance; these neutralize the draining effect of water.
  • SKIN of the newborns is gentle and sensitive, and requires special care. Therefore one should use preparations without soap and quality oils without colors and scents so that they would not irritate the delicate baby`s skin.

Skincare in pregnant women

Another major change in the skin occurs in women during pregnancy. Increased levels of the hormone can cause pigmentation of the skin, and the stretch marks often occur because of the spread and stretch of the skin on the chest, stomach, hips and thighs. Pregnant women`s skin should be lubricated every day with special creams and oils, for example, jojoba or almond, and pharmacists can recommend special products for the prevention and removal of stretch marks.
