AD3

This medicine contains the active ingredients: 6000IU/mL of retinol and 2000IU/mL of cholecalciferol. Cholecalciferol is a biologically active form of vitamin D. Vitamin D is very important for maintaining health of our bones and teeth, and it regulates the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body. Most common disturbance in the body’s calcium levels comes from kidney disorders, disorders of the parathyroid glands, low blood calcium. Cholecalciferol takes calcium from food and helps with strengthening and growth of the bones. It is prescribed for the prevention and treatment of vitamin D deficiency, and some conditions that cause problems with the bones. Retinol (Vitamin A) is essential for the regeneration of the visual pigment of the retina and for the normal structure of the upper layer of the skin and mucous membrane. Vitamin A deficiency leads to night blindness, excessive thickening of the skin and changes in the mucous membrane, which consequently becomes less resistant to infections.

This medicine is prescribed for the prevention of vitamin A and vitamin D deficiency in infants and small children.

Is AD3 suitable for me?

AD3 is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if your child is allergic (hypersensitive) to retinol, cholecalciferol or other ingredients of this medicine
• if your child has high blood calcium levels (hypercalcaemia)

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• if your child has kidney impairment, kidney stones or a heart disease
• if a child is taking additional calcium or vitamin D supplements (including food, sun)

AD3 interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take AD3?

This medicine is available in form of oral drops.

You should give AD3 exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. The dose will be prescribed according to your child`s age, condition and needs.

• AD3 drops are usually given to infants from 6 weeks to 1 year of age. The doctor can prescribe preventive intake of drops also after completed first year of age. The daily needs for vitamins A and D are the same as in a one-year-old child.
• Healthy infants under 6 months require about 1500 IU of vitamin A and 300 IU of vitamin D daily. The recommended daily dose for breast-fed and cow’s milk-fed infants is 7 AD3 drops and for formula-fed infants up to 4 drops, depending on the vitamin content in the formula used.
• Children from 6 months to 3 years require about 2000 IU of vitamin A and 400 IU of vitamin D daily. The recommended daily dose for breast-fed and cow’s milk-fed children is up to 10 AD3 drops and for formula-fed infants up to 8 AD3 drops.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Do not take give doses together if you miss a dose.

What are AD3 side effects?

Like all medicines AD3 can cause side effects, including:

• bloating
• diarrhea
• hypersensitivity reactions (rashes)
• hypervitaminosis (nausea, lack of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, thirst, passing large amounts of urine, restlessness, bulging fontanelles, irritability, tiredness, dry skin, excessive peeling of the skin on the palms and soles or itching; in more severe cases, pain in the bones and joints, cramps and soft tissue calcification occur.)
