ACETOCAUSTIN

This medicine contains the active ingredient monochloroacetic acid which is a strong organic acid which is irritating and corrosive to the skin and has a high systemic toxicity. Monochloroacetic acid is used to cauterize (remove) common warts (verrucae vulgaris).

Is Monochloroacetic acid suitable for me?

Monochloroacetic acid is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to monochloroacetic acid, or to any of the other ingredients in this medicine
• in the area of the face (it shall never come into contact with the eyes or mucous membranes of the nose and mouth)
• in the genital area
• on wounds or injured warts
• immediately after surgical removal of warts using a scalpel or electric knife, after freezing the wart (cryotherapy), subcutaneous injection of bleomycin, as well as laser treatment
• for the treatment of moles and warts in elderly
• when you have a tendency to form scar tissue (keloids)

In particular, you must tell the doctor:

• if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breast-feeding
• If there is any doubt about the diagnosis (for example, changes in the skin that are not clearly recognizable as warts)
• in the case of impaired immunity (for example, when taking cytostatic)
• in patients with diabetes mellitus, polyneuropathy, arterial occlusion disease and other diseases accompanied by reduced blood flow and / or a limited sensitivity.

Monochloroacetic acid interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Monochloroacetic acid?

This medicine is available in form of cutaneous solution.

You should take monochloroacetic acid exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

• Apply a small amount of solution once a week on the wart with a spatula. Solution should not be used more than once a week.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Do not apply two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Monochloroacetic acid side effects?

Like all medicines monochloroacetic acid can cause side effects, including:

Common:

• burning, pain, redness of the skin
• pain, burning and redness of the skin in the wart area

Very rare:

• increased scaring
• hypersensitivity reactions
• burns, 3^rd degree
• bacterial infections
• hypersensitivity reactions
• redness, swelling, blistering and pain
• formation of bubbles
• tissue necrosis
• inflammatory response
• limfangitis
