This medicine contains the active ingredient mirtazapine which belongs to a group of medicines called antidepressants. Medicines like mirtazapine improve certain neurotransmission in the brain, and that controls our mood. Mirtazapine is prescribed for the treatment of depression.

Is Mirtazapine suitable for me?

Mirtazapine is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if you are allergic to mirtazapine or other ingredients of this medicine
• if you are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
• if you are under 18 years of age

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• have liver or kidney disease
• have diabetes
• have epilepsy or other fits
• have low blood pressure
• have had any other mental health problem
• have ever experienced any problems passing urine
• have eyes problems
• have heart problems
• are a young adult
• are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding

Mirtazapine interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Mirtazapine?

This medicine is available in form of a film-coated tablet.

You should take mirtazapine exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

• The usual starting dose is 15 or 30 mg per day.
• The usual maintenance dose is between 15 and 45 mg per day.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Also, this medicine works best if there is a constant amount in the blood. To help keep this amount constant, do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Mirtazapine side effects?

Like all medicines mirtazapine can cause side effects, including:

Very common:

• feeling sleepy 
• increase in appetite and weight gain
• drowsiness
• headache
• dry mouth

Common:

• lethargy, tiredness
• vivid dreams, sleeping problems
• dizziness, confusion, anxiety 
• shakiness or tremor
• nausea, diarrhea, vomiting
• rash or skin eruptions
• joints or muscles pain
• back pain
• swelling
