This medicine contains the active ingredient metamizole, which is a powerful non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. This medicine is used to relieve severe, acute pain that does not respond to treatment with other drugs, caused by conditions like neuralgia, neuritis, herpes zoster, or biliary colic, ankylosing spondylitis and tumors. It is also used to lower fever that does not respond to other therapeutic measures.

Is Metamizole suitable for me?

Metamizole is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if you are allergic to metamizole, or other ingredients of this medicine
• if you have porphyria
• if you have inherited deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase
• if you have blood dyscrasias
• if you have suppressed bone marrow
• if you are pregnant

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• have asthma
• have anemia
• have kidney or liver failure
• have peptic ulcer
• have hypertension or heart disease
• are a child
• are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breast feeding

Metamizole interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Metamizole?

This medicine is available in form of a tablet.

You should take metamizole exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

• The usual dose is between 500 mg and 1 g taken 3 to 4 times per day.
• Maximum daily dose is 5 g.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Also, this medicine works best if there is a constant amount in the blood. To help keep this amount constant, do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Metamizole side effects?

Like all medicines metamizole can cause side effects, including:

• nausea, vomiting
• dry mouth
• irritation of the digestive system
• drowsiness
• fatigue
• headache
• low blood pressure
• allergic reactions
• rash
• anaphylactic shock
• hemolytic anemia, aplastic anemia
• bronchospasm
