DUTAPROST

This medicine contains the active ingredient dutasteride which belongs to a group of medicines called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. These medicines stop the production of 5-alpha reductase enzyme by preventing the conversion of the testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (hormones). This causes the prostate to stop growing and become smaller. Dutasteride is prescribed for the treatment of prostate gland enlargement (benign prostatic hyperplasia) which causes urinary problems.

Is Dutasteride suitable for me?

Dutasteride is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to dutasteride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
• if you have serious liver problems
• if you are woman or child

Dutasteride interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Dutasteride?

This medicine is available in form of a soft capsule.

You should take dutasteride exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

• The usual dose is one 0,5 mg capsule per day.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Also, this medicine works best if there is a constant amount in the blood. To help keep this amount constant, do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Dutasteride side effects?

Like all medicines dutasteride can cause side effects, including:

Common:

• impotence
• reduced sex drive
• problems with ejaculation
• breast enlargement or tenderness 

Uncommon:

• heart failure
• hair loss or hair growth
• depression
