This medicine contains the active ingredient bilastine which is an antihistamine used for the treatment of rhinoconjunctivitis and urticaria (hives). These medicines reduce the effects of histamine (a chemical produced in our body after the contact with pollen or other substances) by disabling histamine receptors to bind with histamine. If this binding is not disabled, we have symptoms such as itching, sneezing, wet eyes, runny nose.  The symptoms of urticaria or hives are skin rashes. Bilastine stops the effects of histamine and relieves the symptoms of these types of allergies.

Is Bilastine suitable for me?

Bilastine is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if you are allergic to bilastine or to other ingredients of this medicine

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breast-feeding
• have porphyria (a rare inherited blood disorder)

Bilastine interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Bilastine?

This medicine is available in form of a tablet.

You should take bilastine exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

• The usual dose is one tablet 20 mg a day.
• The tablet must be taken on an empty stomach, and one hour before meal.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Bilastine side effects?

Like all medicines bilastine can cause side effects, including:

Common:

• headache
• drowsiness

 Uncommon:

• heartbeat problems
• liver problems
• dizziness
• tiredness
• increased appetite and weight
• feeling sick
• anxiety
• dry or uncomfortable nose
• stomach pain, diarrhea, gastritis
