CADUET

This medicine contains two active ingredients, amlodipine and atorvastatin. Amlodipine belongs to a group of medicines called calcium antagonists. They lower the amount of calcium in the walls of the arteries and in the heart. Amlodipine is prescribed for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension) by relaxing blood vessels, and for the treatment of a chest pain called angina, by improving blood flow to the heart muscle.

Atorvastatin belongs to a group of medicines known as statins. Statins control lipid (fat). One type of lipid is called cholesterol which, if there is a high amount of it in the body, can cause heart and blood vessel disease. Atorvastatin lowers the amount of cholesterol produced by liver.

This medicine that combines Amlodipine and Atorvastatin helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, heart diseases, kidney problems and chest pain.

Is Caduet suitable for me?

Caduet is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• If you are allergic to amlodipine, atorvastatin or other ingredients of this medicine
• If you have liver problems
• If you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or are breastfeeding
• If you are taking cimetidine, cyclosporine, gemfibrozil, ketoconazole, mibefradil, spironolactone, telaprevir, conivaptan or tipranavir plus ritonavir

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• have low blood pressure,
• a severe infection,
• endocrine, metabolic, or electrolyte problems,
• if you have a history of heart problems, blood vessel problems,
• liver problems,
• diabetes,
• thyroid problems,
• kidney problems,
• muscle problems
• a stroke, or seizures
• are planning surgery or you are recovering from a surgery
• drink alcohol or have a history of alcohol abuse

Caduet interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Caduet?

This medicine is available in form of a film-coated tablet.

You should take Caduet exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

• The usual starting dose for amlodipine is 5 mg once a day, and for atorvastatin is 10 to 20 mg once a day. The usual maximum prescribed dose for amlodipine is 10 mg once a day, and for atorvastatin is 80 mg once a day.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Also, this medicine works best if there is a constant amount in the blood. To help keep this amount constant, do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Caduet side effects?

Like all medicines Caduet can cause side effects, including:

Common:

• body aches or pain
• congestion
• difficulty moving
• headache
• lower back or side pain
• pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
• problems with urination
• runny or stuffy nose
• tender, swollen glands in the neck
• voice changes

Uncommon:

• stomach pain
• bloated or full feeling
• constipation
• excess air or gas in the stomach or intestines
• feeling ill
• heartburn
• indigestion
• lack or loss of strength
• loss of appetite
• nausea
• vomiting
