The active substance in this medicine is adapalene. Adapalene belongs to a group of products known as retinoids that are used on the skin for the treatment of acne. Acne occur when the skin pores are blocked and the sebum (oil) is not able to come to the surface of the skin. Adapalene has an anti-inflammatory effect so it reduces inflammation, unblocks pores, treats blackheads and helps the skin cell renewal. It is suitable for use on the face, back and chest. It also helps reducing soreness and irritation.

Is Adapalene suitable for me?

Adapalene is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• If you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding
• If you have eczema
• If you are allergic to adapalene or other ingredients of this medicine
• If you have cuts or scrapes or sunburns

In particular, you must tell the doctor if:

• you experience sensitivity or irritation
• you use other acne products
• you fall pregnant while using adapalene

Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth or angles of the nose.

Avoid exposure to strong sunlight and artificial UV light.

Adapalene interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Adapalene?

This medicine is available in form of a gel/cream, and it is for the EXTERNAL USE ONLY.

You should use adapalene only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Read the information leaflet provided with your medication for additional information.

• It is usually applied once a day in the evening or before going to bed on the area where the spots occur.
• The skin should be cleared before the application.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor ordered. Do not apply a double dose to make up for forgotten individual doses.

What are Adapalene side effects?

Like all medicines adapalene can cause side effects, including:

Common side effects:

• dry skin
• local skin rash
• burning sensation
• irritation of the skin
• redness
• scaling

Uncommon side effects:

• itching of the skin
• sunburn
