ACIKLOVIR

Acyclovir eye ointment is a medicine that contains acyclovir. Acyclovir comes from the group of antivirals which are effective in stopping the growth of the virus. It is used to treat eye infections caused by the herpes simplex virus. It disables the growth of the virus and this eliminates the infection on the front of your eyeball (cornea).

Is Acyclovir suitable for me?

Acyclovir is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

• if you are allergic to acyclovir, or other ingredients of this medicine

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

• wear contact lenses
• have kidney disease
• have weak immune system

Acyclovir interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications, eye drops, ointments and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Acyclovir?

This medicine is available in form of eye ointment.

You should use acyclovir only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. The treatment should be started as soon as possible.

• Release a thin line of ointment along the inside of your lower eye lid 5 times a day.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor ordered. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. You should take the forgotten dose as soon as you remember and then take the next dose at the right time.

What are Acyclovir side effects?

Like all medicines acyclovir can cause side effects, including:

Very common:

• irritation

Common:

• mild stinging in your eye
• swollen, runny eyes

Rare:

• swollen eyelids
